Activities Support staff actively promote engagement by assisting Dominic with various aspects of daily living. He is encouraged to participate in activities such as gardening, using sensory equipment, watching movies or TV, listening to music, and engaging in physical movement. Staff also support regular outdoor activities, including walks to local parks and playgrounds, where Dominic enjoys playing with a soccer ball or football. He also looks forward to walks in the community and meeting his family at local cafés. Skills development At home, Dominic is supported to build independence through involvement in meal preparation and household chores. These tasks help to develop skills essential for independent living. Although Dominic is not currently attending a day program, this is being explored as a goal for the future. Household routine Dominic is typically an early riser. With support from staff, he completes his personal care in the morning, has breakfast, and often helps with light household tasks such as laundry and tidying up before heading out into the community. Support staff follow Dominic’s lead throughout the day, offering him choice and flexibility in deciding what activities he would like to engage in and when. Each day usually includes a planned activity in both the morning and afternoon, allowing Dominic the opportunity to be active and enjoy time outdoors in the fresh air. In the evening, staff work alongside Dominic to prepare his dinner, supporting his continued development of independent living skills. After dinner, the routine focuses on winding down, this may involve listening to calming music, watching a movie, or participating in relaxation activities such as meditation. Dominic typically goes to bed between 9:00 and 10:00 p.m., although this may vary slightly depending on the evening. |
