Profile

Dominic is a 29-year-old Australian man who is mostly non- verbal but enjoys social interaction. He values when others take the time to engage in conversation and communicates through looking, gesture and vocalisations.

Preferences

Dominic enjoys having fun and staying active, especially through outdoor activities and playing sports. He finds dancing and creating videos of himself particularly entertaining. He also likes musical instruments, drawing, cooking, solving puzzles, playing board games, and listening to music. Dominic appreciates quieter moments too, such as spending time in the library or going for walks in the community.

Routine and clear boundaries help Dominic feel secure and support him in having a smooth and successful day. He especially looks forward to his regular weekend family visits, which are a highlight for him.

Dominic values inclusion and enjoys being involved in activities with others. He does not respond well to being ignored or excluded, and he finds loud noises and shouting to be distressing.

Living goals

Dominic strives to be as independent as possible and values support from others, especially when it helps him take on responsibilities. Feeling safe and secure with the people around him is important to Dominic. He looks forward to sharing his sense of humour with staff and building a friendship with his new housemate.

Flatmate preferences

Dominic would like to share with either a female or male co-resident who is of similar age. Someone who is interactive and would like to share time during meal timesmealtimes, watching TV or doing activities together.

Home living environment

Activities

Support staff actively promote engagement by assisting Dominic with various aspects of daily living. He is encouraged to participate in activities such as gardening, using sensory equipment, watching movies or TV, listening to music, and engaging in physical movement.

Staff also support regular outdoor activities, including walks to local parks and playgrounds, where Dominic enjoys playing with a soccer ball or football. He also looks forward to walks in the community and meeting his family at local cafés.

Skills development

At home, Dominic is supported to build independence through involvement in meal preparation and household chores. These tasks help to develop skills essential for independent living.

Although Dominic is not currently attending a day program, this is being explored as a goal for the future.

Household routine

Dominic is typically an early riser. With support from staff, he completes his personal care in the morning, has breakfast, and often helps with light household tasks such as laundry and tidying up before heading out into the community.

Support staff follow Dominic’s lead throughout the day, offering him choice and flexibility in deciding what activities he would like to engage in and when. Each day usually includes a planned activity in both the morning and afternoon, allowing Dominic the opportunity to be active and enjoy time outdoors in the fresh air.

In the evening, staff work alongside Dominic to prepare his dinner, supporting his continued development of independent living skills. After dinner, the routine focuses on winding down, this may involve listening to calming music, watching a movie, or participating in relaxation activities such as meditation.

Dominic typically goes to bed between 9:00 and 10:00 p.m., although this may vary slightly depending on the evening.
